Cartoon Chaplin Unnumbered Straight Text Strip Cards

Country of Issue: USA
Year of Issue: 1921

Number of Cards in Set: unknown
Card Size: 1 1/2" x 2 7/16"
Issued as insert with what product: Issued in strips by themselves with no other product. Cards are usually found cut apart.

Notes: Blank-backed. Cards are in color, with cartoon drawings of Charlie Chaplin. There are captions in straight text and in all caps below the pictures. The captions describe the scenes on the cards and do not identify the movie stars pictured. When originally issued, these cards were issued in horizontal strips of 10 cards.

Some of these cards have been seen with different colors. Cards have also been seen with reverse images. Cards have also been seen with black text and blue text.

Unlike most strip card sets, these cards do have some text identifying the company issuing the cards and the date of issue. If you put some of the cut cards together, you can read some of the original text at the top of the cards. The title of the set is identified as "Matching Cards Universal Comic Series C." A copyright statement on two other cards states "Copyright 1921 Universal Toys Nov Mfg. Co."
