Issuing Company: Cine Urquiza Country of Issue: Argentina Year of Issue: 1920s Color/B&W: Color Number of Cards in Set: Card Size: Issued as insert with what product: Movie Theatre Giveaway |
Notes: Checklist incomplete. Cine Urquiza was a movie theatre in Buenos Aires, Argentina that opened in 1921. The two cards in this checklist were found in an Argentina card collection together. The Harold Lloyd card has a printed back for the Cine Urquiza movie theatre saying "Veame en el Hombre Mosca Mi mejor pelicula Cine Urquiza," which translates to "See me in Safety Last My best movie Urquiza Cinema." The film "Safety Last" was released in 1923, so this card must have been issued in that year or later.
The Bebe Daniels card has the same basic design as the Harold Lloyd card, except it has a blank back and Paramount Series at the front bottom of the card. The color Paramount Series set was also issued by the E.A. Hoffman Candy company in the USA and is checklisted at 28 cards in the American Assorted section of this website. This Bebe Daniels card has the same front as the Hoffman card of Daniels. The Hoffman checklist is missing one card still, and Harold Lloyd is not currently listed as part of the Hoffman set. It is possible Lloyd is the 28th card or it is also possible that the Lloyd card is a new card, especially since it does not have the Paramount Series notation on it. There is a Paramount logo on the Lloyd card.
