The Series of 1879 tax stamp would be replaced by a Series of 1883 tax stamp
on May 1st, 1883. Note that the stamp has the date March 3d 1883
which is the date Congress passed the new tax law but it wasn't effective
until May 1st 1883 so the 1879 tax stamp was used until May 1st 1883.

Joe did a bit of detective work on the timeline
for the BTA cigarette boxes used by Thos. H. Hall.
Here's the progression he posted from early boxes
to post-ATC cigarette boxes (around 1895-1899).
My guess is that the boxes gave way to the red tins
around 1900. But that's just a guess.
