Note: Checklist incomplete. These are Kromo Gravure cards with Morehouse Baking Co. "Betsy Ross" Bread advertising on the backs. They were given out with the bread. The address listed on the backs of the cards for Morehouse was in Lawrence, Massachusetts. This card promotion was evidently limited to that area, as the prize offer on the backs mention that the theatre ticket certificate that could be redeemed was only good for movie theatres in Lawrence, Lowell, or Haverhill, Massachusetts. These have an American Card Catalog number of D55. There was an offer on the backs where a person could turn in 25 different cards to get 25 cents credit at a local movie theatre to see a film. It looks like collectors got their cards back when turning them in for the prize as these have been found with a "Cancelled" stamp on the back to prevent collectors from sending them in more than once. Kromo Gravure issued cards with blank backs on their own from about 1917 through about 1921, so these cards came near the end of the Kromo Gravure card run. Kromo Gravure issued about 200 different movie star cards with white borders like these cards. The Morehouse cards state that there were 50 cards given out for this promotion. The cards in this set help date the later cards from the Kromo Gravure promotion. A card with a Betsy Ross stamped back has been seen. Date Info: Some of the cards have a Notice on the backs indicating the card promotion will end on May 25, 1921, dating the cards to that year.
